13 May 2026-Institute Debate 2026

Participating in a debate competition does more than just polish public speaking; it sharpens critical thinking, fosters structured expression, and cultivates the ability to remain calm under pressure. True mastery in debating lies in the "clash"—the ability to engage directly with an opponent’s strongest points rather than merely repeating one’s own.

On May 14, 2026, eight of our trainees put these skills to the test in a spirited contest centered on a timely resolution: "The Usefulness of Social Media."

The Proceedings

The event commenced at 1:00 PM in the Library Hall, moderated by the Institute’s Principal, Br. Tom. The panel of judges, consisting of Mr. Jerry and Mr. Wakaish Alam, evaluated the participants on their logical flow, delivery, and rebuttal strength.

  • For the Motion: Led by Sheetal, this group argued that social media is an indispensable tool in the modern world, offering unparalleled connectivity and educational benefits.
  • Against the Motion: Led by Arsh Hamid, the opposition countered with a sobering look at the erosion of family dynamics, the loss of privacy, and the detrimental impact on traditional social structures.

The "Clash" and Resolution

The debate reached its peak during the Question & Answer session. The exchange was so rigorous that the judges faced a difficult task in determining a victor. A highlight of the session included a pointed question from audience member Ms. Pratibha, who challenged the opposition to explain the platform's global popularity if its effects were truly so negative.

After a series of sharp rebuttals and a final synthesis by the moderator, the results were announced. By a very narrow margin, the team Against the Motion was declared the winner.
