10 May 2025-Debate competition at Don Bosco ITI, Kokar

In today’s competitive academic environment, schools, colleges, and institutes increasingly rely on co-curricular activities to nurture essential life skills among students. One such impactful platform is the debate competition, known for sharpening communication, critical thinking, and leadership abilities.

On 10th May, Don Bosco ITI, Kokar, Ranchi, hosted a thought-provoking debate on the topic “Artificial Intelligence is to be Adapted.” Two teams of students, after thorough research, presented compelling arguments both in favor of and against the motion.

The audience listened attentively as the four speakers on each side articulated their points with clarity and conviction. Following the initial round of speeches, a structured question-and-answer session was held, where each team posed and responded to four relevant questions. Both groups handled the queries effectively, demonstrating a sound understanding of the subject.

The engagement extended to the audience as well. Two teachers posed questions—one to each side—followed by two students directing their questions to the team supporting the motion. This interactive segment added further depth to the event and kept the audience thoroughly engaged.

After consulting the judges, Br. Tom, the moderator, shared his insights. He acknowledged the dual nature of AI, highlighting both its benefits and potential pitfalls, and stressed the importance of using it judiciously. Ultimately, he announced that the team opposing the motion had won the debate by a narrow margin. Gonzalo Toppo, from the opposing team, was declared the best speaker, while Felix Aind, from the supporting side, was named the second-best speaker.

The event was not only intellectually stimulating but also a valuable learning experience for all involved—especially the participants, who demonstrated significant growth in public speaking and self-confidence. They also gained practical lessons in teamwork, coordination, and strategic thinking.

The venue arrangement was commendably handled by the first-year fitter trainees under the guidance of Mr. Nipun Kujur, contributing to the smooth conduct of the event.
